CREATIVITY AND SUSTAINABLITY

MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2023

Nature Squared’s third show at Rosanna Orlandi’s iconic gallery during Milan Design Week highlighted a custom design installation of three mirrors and stools featuring natural waste materials.

The new collection of mirrors is named KAIROS, and inspired by time, reflection and circularity. Each mirror features another natural surface, paired with a different coloured reflective glass.

Nature Squared also presented three stools with distinctive eggshell surfaces handcrafted in CArrelé, the world’s first eco-friendly, zero CO2 emission tile made of waste eggshell, and TERRAMIQUE, their new mouldable material made of sustainably sourced crushed eggshell.

CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS

Nature Squared teamed up with the Rossana Orlandi Gallery to host a live series of talks about the realities of designing with sustainability in mind. These Creative Conversations correspond with the start of Milan Design Week, and bring together artists and designers across various disciplines to discuss practical solutions. The discussion was moderated by architecture and design author and writer Catherine Shaw. Contact us here for more details and the schedule.

CALCIUM CARBONATE,
A NEW LUXURY MATERIAL?

Driven by the 250,000 tons of eggshell waste generated annually worldwide, Nature Squared’s pioneering research and design teams have developed a renewable bioceramic waste eggshell material that absorbs carbon dioxide and serves as an absorbent decarbonating filter separating CO2 from industrial gases, in stark contrast to traditional ceramic and porcelain. Moulded into tiles and organic shapes, it transforms interiors while helping to address a growing environmental crisis.

OTHER EGGSHELL APPLICATIONS

Over the past two decades, Nature Squared has mastered eggshell inlay application in interiors from wall surfaces to complex curved furnishings such as bathtubs and contemporary works of art, bringing a traditional technique into modern interiors.

NEW RESEARCH, NEW MATERIALS

Nature Squared’s in-house team of artisans, engineers, and chemists develop new materials to use in innovative ways. Their workshop is based in the Philippines, where the entire design and making processes follow a strict circular approach with sustainable practice at its core. Our latest research is focused on creating a hand-cast moulded process suggesting the natural textured patterns of coral.
